🚨GLOBAL EMERGENCY: WHAT IS MPOX? Formerly known as Monkey Pox, Mpox is a viral disease that has been compared to smallpox. It can be spread through close contact, including touching, kissing, or sex, as well as through contaminated materials like sheets, clothing, and needles, according to the WHO. Initial symptoms are flu-like — including fever, chills, exhaustion, headaches, and muscle weakness — often followed by a painful or itchy rash with raised lesions that scab over.
