In 1959 Robert Timm and John Wayne Cook broke the flight endurance world record for a refueled and crewed fight. They successfully stayed in the air for 64 days and 22 hours.

The pair flew in a modified Cessna 172 dubbed “Hacienda” in order to promote the Hacienda in Las Vegas.

Although the flight was successful, it nearly turned into a catastrophe at one point.

During their 64-day journey, Robert Timm dozed off while on duty. He slept for an hour in the pilot’s seat.

Fortunately, the autopilot was activated; had it not been, the outcome of the flight could have been drastically different.
